Aphelaspis brachyphasis
Cambrian Conasauga Fm Georgia These are the most abundant in this material. Area is now off limits to collectors. The orange colour is supplied by limonite. |

Isotelus "mafritzae"
M. Ordovician - Lindsay Fm, Bowmanville Ontario These are generally restricted to one of two quarries in Ontario. The species has not been properly described yet. There are two morph types: one with long, thin genal spines, and the other with rounded genals. Both are represented here. |
Nileus armadillo
Ordovician - Haellekis, Sweden Among the Baltoscandian trilobites, Sweden's examples do not typically preserve as well as their Russian counterparts. Still, a cute enrolled example of the species. |
|
Pseudogygites latimarginatus
U. Ordovician (numerous formations), Ontario My very first trilobite that I found at age 7 was a large pygidium of this species. Back in those days, these were incredibly numerous in Ottawa and at Craigleith; however, shoreline rehabilitation. provincial park designation, private property development, and quarry closures limit where they can be found today. In some areas, they would appear as massive moulted mortality plates. In the upper Cobourg/Lindsay, they are inflated whereas in the anoxic shales they are flat and compressed. |

LICHIDA (9)
Acanthopyge contusa
L. Devonian - Amherstburg Fm Just a selection from numerous fragments I collected from this material. These differ from the Michigan basin equivalent of the Amherstburg Fm. Although only fragmentary, they are diagnostic for a lichid rarely reported in Ontario (and nowhere outside of the Formosa Reef). |
|
Amphilichas ottawensis
M. Ordovician - Verulam Fm I may have another fragment not pictured here, but this is a rare lichid to find even halfway complete. |
|
Echinolichas cf. eriopis
L. Devonian - Amherstburg Fm Initially before the age of the rocks was determined, my first finds were thought to be small Terataspis. Pictured here are some pygidia and hypostoma. These are exceptionally rare in Ontario, to the extent that they were mentioned (possibly by inference to NY strata) by Stauffer in 1915. To my knowledge, these are the first to appear in Ontario rocks. |
|
Hoplolichoides furficer
Ordovician - Russia, St Petersburg Another bucket-list item for me. These lichids from Russia's Ordovician are just stunning. A true showpiece. |
|
Terataspis grandis
L. Devonian - Bois Blanc Fm The undisputed king of Devonian trilobites. This represents a portion of the samples I collected in 2020. A number of others still require preparation. I may in fact have the world's largest collection of Terataspis parts. |

Ceraurus sp. ?pleurexanthemus
M. Ordovician - Verulam Fm Neuville Formation - Quebec City A few specimens from both Ontario and Quebec. The Quebec Ceraurus bears a stronger resemblance to the Rust-Walcott C. pleurexanthemus. The current Cheirurid revision is not likely to pay much heed to the existing morphological variations of the Ontario crew, sadly. |

M. Devonian -- Multiple locations This successfully prolific and iconic phacopid was effectively the cockroach of the middle Devonian. I have hundreds of them spanning several formations across Ontario and New York State. There may be some morphological nuances worthy of further study when comparing New York and Ontario varieties. |

Crassiproetus crassimarginatus
L. Devonian - Bois Blanc Fm, Amherstburg Fm
This is another quasi-cockroach. We know that Lieberman performed the proetid revision, but it was based on cladistic analysis, which I find only as good as the characteristics one measures. This genus needs non-cladistic love, methinks.

L. Devonian - Bois Blanc Fm, M. Devonian (Amherstburg, Dundee Fms)
Another cockroach. Same issues with the cladistic analysis as provided by Liebermann. In middle Devonian rocks, there is scarcely a formation that doesn't have parts of these. Full ones? Rare as hen's teeth, but I have some near complete ones due to persistence in the "damnable Devonian."
